The Next Pandemic's Source

China might be taking action to close down the illegal wildlife trade, but other Asian nations appear willing to continue it.  Perhaps the next zoonotic derived pandemic will originate in Vietnam.  No matter where the transfer to humans occurs, Nigeria will most likely be the source of the wildlife that carries the disease.

Since scientists learned the coronavirus (Covid-19) might have origins with bats and potentially spread to humans through pangolins in a wildlife market in Wuhan, China, Chinese authorities have closed down or put under quarantine about 20,000 wildlife farms to curb wildlife trade. Vietnam is considering a similar ban.
This drastic action by China, the largest market of pangolin in East Asia is getting commendation globally from wildlife conservationists. However, they are concerned Nigeria, one of the largest pangolin trade hubs in Africa has not reacted to these reports. An investigation into pangolin trafficking found Nigeria was linked to 55% of pangolin scales seized global between 2016 and 2019.

If Life Gives You Potatoes, Make Vodka

A craft distillery in San Diego County quickly repurposed its production line to manufacture hand sanitizer.

“We're a company of four people and making this transition into a kind of like industrial-commercial hand sanitizer company within a span of a week has had a couple challenges, to say the least,” Rigali said.
The co-founders said government officials were helpful in helping them get FDA approval as a bottler of hand sanitizer within a day.
"Everyone got out of the way for not just us but anyone capable of making a necessary ingredient," Chereskin said. "I like that story because most of the time we talk about government being obstructionist and in this particular case they did a great job."

As countries have shut down to slow the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, satellites in orbit around Earth are noticing changes to our home world.
Specifically, orbiting instruments are observing reductions in emissions and in night lighting as people follow orders to stay home and reduce contact with others. Such approaches are vital in slowing the jump from person to person of the new coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 disease. However, these measures are also reducing the visibility of humanity on Earth.

Florida Man is the State's Governor

You can see where Duval County and St Johns County intersect in Florida.  The governor of Florida has has refused to close all the states beaches, leaving that decision up to county and municipal governments.   Hard to see how this works to slow the virus down.
