Masks Make the Winger (Mad)

 Posted Without Comment

Elect A Failure, Expect A Failure

A failed businessman with a history of bankruptcy in multiple ventures is considered by over 60 million American voters as a financial genius.  WTF?  Without the pandemic, the Obama/Biden expansion would have continued and Trump would have continued to pretend he had anything to do with it. The fact is that this Covid-19 related financial disaster would not have been so horrific if we had a competent president.

What A Worthless POS

Old video of Trump being forced to vote via provisional ballot because he wasn't registered to vote.  In the end after multiple stops at polling places, Trump completes the provisional ballot in his limo.  The voting video is from a 2008 segment of the Access Hollywood program that includes some Trump bullshit regarding Obama's school records and birth certificate.  The only person in this video who looks remotely as bad as Trump is his sycophant Billy Bush.

What you see in the video is a man totally unable to function as a normal human being.  A supposedly wealthy, powerful business executive who can't even get registered to vote.

No wonder he has used an absentee ballot since then.  It must be embarrassing to limo around New York and have "scumbag" poll workers reject you.

Trump and Republicans Hate Science

Trump's ignorance is all a part of the Republican Party's assault on science.  He's just even dumber than most of the Republicans.

America Love It Or Leave It - Oh, Wait! No Place to Go

Canada adds health officials at U.S. border crossings to screen ...

Trump has made Americans global pariahs.  There is a short list of countries that will allow entry to travelers from the United States.  Lots of  small island countries and a few peripheral European nations.  Many require proof of a negative Covid-19 test as a condition of entry.  Since the window allowed for that test prior to entry is often 48 hours and tests in the US are backed up in labs for days and even weeks, the 48 hour  requirement is going to be hard for many travelers to meet.  As the number of US states in crisis increases, countries that had indicated that they would accept US travelers is decreasing, so you may plan a trip for late August today and find out a week before departure that you are no longer welcome.

A Petty Little Man Has Stolen Our Lives and Hopes

Trump's incompetence has robbed Americans of so many important moments in our lives and he doesn't care.  In other countries governments have managed to allow their citizens to move on with almost normal lives.  In the United States, Trump's failures both as a leader and his moral failings have resulted in so many lost lives and lost living.

Medical Experts Knew and Raised the Alarm - Mann Gulch 5:44 Revisited

Image result for mann gulch fire

Way back in April the New York Times published an extensive e-mail thread written by a group of medical and security experts regarding the then new virus infection in China.  The group called itself Red Dawn Rising and despite their expertise and connections, their dire warning were largely ignored in January and February.  The group's members have avoided public comment regarding how their warnings were ignored by Trump and his cronies, but some are now speaking out.
A group of public health and national security experts who sent some of the earliest and most dire warnings to officials across the Trump administration about the gathering coronavirus crisis is now offering a searing assessment of how the federal government blundered through the critical first months of a lethal outbreak.
Members of the group, whose lengthy string of emails now read like a chilling foreshadowing of the unfolding deadly pandemic, came to be known by the chain’s dark-humored subject line, “Red Dawn Rising,” a reference to the campy 1984 cold war movie about a gritty band of Americans who fend off foreign invaders. Now several have broken their silence about the early warnings in interviews with ABC News to describe their lingering distress about the missed chances to spare lives.
“We did not step up and meet the challenge that we needed to meet,” said Dr. Jeffrey Duchin, Seattle-King County Public Health Officer, and a contributor to the email chain. “We didn't act quickly enough to do the things that we needed to do early enough. And we still are not doing the things we need to do to get this outbreak under control.”

"Trump Grifts, You Die"

To the Trump family the presidency is one more opportunity to make a buck.  Public service has never been a part of the equation.  The grift has been the entire purpose.

And his own supporters are the among the biggest victims of the con.
President Donald Trump’s campaign is violating federal election law by funneling close to a quarter-billion dollars to date through private companies in order to hide the ultimate recipients of the money, including the wife of one of his sons and the girlfriend of another, a watchdog group charged in a complaint filed Tuesday.
“The money is being laundered through corporations run by top Trump campaign officials,” said Brendan Fischer, a lawyer with the Campaign Legal Center. “That has the effect of keeping the public in the dark as to a big chunk of Trump campaign spending.”

The Man Claimed To Be An Expert Wall Builder

Trump is not a scientist or a doctor so we can cut him some slack for not personally curing the coronavirus.  But, he did claim to be a genius when it comes to construction and wall building.  It is likely that the only monument that will remain standing after Trump is tossed out of office is the pity the rest of the world feels for the United States.

Major Corporations Funding Police Foundations

Crooked policemen shaking down small business for bribes is a staple of the movies and TV.  In those fictions the bribes are a sort of business insurance - a protection racket if you will.  What's interesting in this investigation is that some of America's largest corporations are donating huge amounts of money to police foundations.   Money that is used by police forces for the purchase of surveillance equipment and high tech weaponry.  Corporation aren't funding community policing, they are funding militarized police forces in cities all of the country.
Some of America’s largest oil and gas companies, private utilities, and financial institutions that bankroll fossil fuels also back police foundations – opaque private entities that raise money to pay for training, weapons, equipment, and surveillance technology for departments across the US.
The investigation by the Public Accountability Initiative, a nonprofit corporate and government accountability research institute, and its research database project LittleSis, details how police foundations in cities such as Seattle, Chicago, Washington, New Orleans and Salt Lake City are partially funded by household names such as Chevron, Shell and Wells Fargo.
Police foundations are industry groups that provide substantial funds to local departments, yet, as nonprofits, avoid much public scrutiny.
Corporations have no interest in the survival of a democratic state.  They are only interesting in the preservation of their corporate profits.  And, they're willing to pay for special police protection.

He Played Golf Yesterday...WTF?

Trump was scheduled to throw out a ceremonial first pitch at a New York Yankee baseball game on Saturday, August 15.  He just Tweeted that his busy schedule makes it impossible for an appearance at the game.  Interesting coming from a man who spends hours every weekend on the golf course.

Baboons With Knives and Chainsaws

Undated Knowsley Safari Park handout photo of baboons at the park in Merseyside unpacking a visitors suitcase on the roof rack.

The coronavirus pandemic forced a popular British drive through safari park to close for several months.  When the park reopened in June, it appears that some of the residents had armed themselves.
Workers at the popular Merseyside attraction claimed they spotted the troop carrying tools – with keepers suspicious the baboons were being armed ‘for a laugh’ by visitors hoping they would then wreak havoc with other people’s cars.
Others speculate the cheeky animals have been pinching them from workers’ toolboxes when they’ve stopped in their enclosure.
The baboons have been known to swarm cars entering the safari park and in some cases have ripped off windscreen wipers and wing mirrors.
Operators of the safari park seem to be taking advantage of the "armed baboon troop" publicity.  There are suspicions that there are no troops of chainsaw toting baboons patrolling the 550 acre site.

Park management has taking a big financial hit during the Covid-19 shutdown.  They argue that keeping their drive through facility shutdown while allowing drive through restaurants to operate was a bit of a farce.
Making a ‘big cats v big macs’ argument it questioned why changes to Covid-19 lockdown allowed drivers to use fast-food drive-thrus but not visit the park.
A spokeswoman said being remaining closed while the restaurants were allowed to reopen ‘didn’t make sense’.

Beclowning One's Self for Trump - It's A No Win

On Monday, game show host and emphatic Trump supporter, Chuck Woolery, claimed that the "CDC, Media, Democrats, our Doctors" were lying about Covid-19 in order to discredit Trump. Three days later, Woolery's son has Covid-19 and Woolery's singing a different tune.
Former game show host Chuck Woolery announced Wednesday his son has tested positive for COVID-19, just days after Woolery accused medical professionals and Democrats of lying about the virus in an effort to hurt the economy and President Trump's reelection chances.

Woolery, who hosted several popular game shows including "Love Connection" and “Wheel of Fortune” and who is a staunch supporter of the president's, has since deleted his Twitter account following the announcement about his son.

“To further clarify and add perspective, Covid-19 is real and it is here. My son tested positive for the virus, and I feel for of those suffering and especially for those who have lost loved ones," Woolery tweeted before his account disappeared.

Free Masks Aren't Enough

If you had a question as to why California was forced to roll back its business openings this week, the answer is right here.  As a society we will fail in the Covid-19 fight if we are unwilling to make even the most trivial of personal sacrifices.

Our National Obituary

Why is our natural tendency to assume that "everything will be all right"? Picture: Shutterstock

Australian journalist Crispin Hull takes a first crack at writing an obituary for the United States. He uses the writings of Soviet dissident, Andrei Amalrik, regarding the collapse of the Soviet Union as an illustration of how a great power can rapidly disintegrate.
"The 'comfort cult', as Amalrik called it - the tendency in seemingly stable societies to believe "that 'reason will prevail' and that 'everything will be all right'" - is seductive. As a result, when a terminal crisis comes, it is likely to be unexpected, confusing, and catastrophic, with the causes so seemingly trivial, the consequences so easily reparable if political leaders would only do the right thing, that no one can quite believe it has come to this ...
Hull lays much of the rot in the US system to extreme partisanship and he is not reticent to call Republicans out as the most virulent proponents of that "my way or the highway" approach to governance.
The underlying weakness in present US democracy is that partisanship has become so extreme that the nation is incapable of dealing with the major issues that face it. COVID-19 has illustrated that starkly, with every word and act predicated on party allegiance. Meanwhile, other problems like race, police violence, gun control, inequality, the health system, climate change and energy policy go unattended.
Hull sees Trump as an extension of this partisanship.  However, he also recognizes Trump's psychological incapacity as an example of a failing system putting forward the least qualified  person to deal with the situation.
...Its president is so psychiatrically disordered with narcissism that he is incapable of dealing with the COVID-19 crisis in a coherent, empathetic way. Everything he says and does is through a prism of himself. He has now turned his whole re-election campaign into one of race hate, law and order and a bizarre invention of a threat from "left-wing fascists".
Hull points out that just excising Trump won't save the US.  Americans will need to take a hard look at there own beliefs and assumptions and decide if "American exceptionalism" has been a delusion that allowed Americans to believe that they didn't have to work cooperatively to maintain their democracy.
Tragically, American exceptionalism - "we are the first and best democracy on Earth" - contributes to the self-delusion of indestructibility. There is nothing automatically self-correcting in US democracy. Even the so-called checks and balances are not working - they are causing gridlock, rather than adding a bit of mild caution to a system that is overall supposed to be geared to problem-solving, not political point-scoring.
The system has become so warped that those disenfranchised, disempowered and disenchanted are taking to the streets, questioning the legitimacy of the whole system.
The only question is whether the taking to the streets can break these vicious circles, or whether it is just another step in the decline and fall of a great power.
I hope this is not the first draft of our national obituary.  Will the chaos and disaster of the last four years be a useful lesson about the fragility of our democracy?  Or, will our hyper-partisanship, growing anti-science bias and social stratification be the forces that put an end to the special country that we imagine ourselves to be?

Trump needs the country to stop thinking about coronavirus and to start paying more attention (and respect) to him.  Problem is a vast majority of Americans now realize that the high water event in his presidency was his alleged passing of a cognition test.  Trump believes that if we stop listening to experts like Fauci and pay more attention to the people who really know what's going on like game show host Chuck Woolery this whole problem would just go away.
Let's face it who wants to listen to some old gloom and doom geezer like Fauci when you have this guy on the case?

We Were For Trumpism, Before Trump Made It A Bad Thing

Some Republicans finally realize the damage Trump has done to their political party. These same Republicans were quite comfortable with their party's racism, religious hypocrisy and tax cuts for the rich policies until Trump's blatant embrace of those policies began to blow up in their faces.  Still, in their petulant anger, they are making great anti-Trump ads.  Penance not salvation.

Is Trump Afraid of Rain (or Empty Seats)?

Trump's New Hampshire rally postponed because it might rain.
Trump commented on Tropical Storm Fay ahead of his departure for Florida earlier Friday, saying he was monitoring the storm, which is expected to hit the East Coast.
He later tweeted: "With Tropical Storm Fay heading towards the Great State of New Hampshire this weekend, we are forced to reschedule our Portsmouth, New Hampshire Rally at the Portsmouth International Airport at Pease. Stay safe, we will be there soon! #MAGA2020."
The worst of Tropical Storm Fay will be through Portsmouth by the time the rally was scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET Saturday, CNN meteorologist Brandon Miller said.
There is only about a 20% chance of lingering showers at that time.
Remember when we had a president who wasn't afraid of rain?

Death Wish - It's My Right

Social responsibility is a great reason to wear a mask right now.  Personal health and even survival is a good reason to mask up.  Eschewing a mask to protect "liberty" seems somewhat excessive.

Covid-19 Infects Trump

Trump says that Covid-19 in 99% harmless.
“Now we have tested almost 40m people. By so doing, we show cases, 99% of which are totally harmless. Results that no other country can show because no other country has the testing that we have, not in terms of the numbers or in terms of quality.”
It was unclear how the president arrived at the “99%” harmless figure.
On the other hand it may turn out that Covid-19 is 100% fatal to Trump's reelection chances.

Trump Paid Someone To Take His SATs - Unpossible

Trump's MAGA crew will see this new revelation as evidence that Trump has been a job creator going all the way back to his days in high school.
How to Cheat on the SAT®: 5 Ways People Have | SupertutorTVPresident Donald Trump cheated on his SATs, according to a forthcoming book from his niece.

'The high score the proxy earned for him, Ms. Trump adds, helped the young Mr. Trump to later gain admittance as an undergraduate to the University of Pennsylvania's prestigious Wharton business school," according to the New York Times, who first reported on the passage.
Although Trump hounded then-President Barack Obama for not turning over his college transcripts, he has never revealed any similar information about his time at Wharton, where he claims he graduated first in his class.
Penn's school newspaper, The Daily Pennsylvanian, published a list of 56 students who were on the dean's list in 1968, the year Trump graduated from the university, but his name was not listed.
Graduated first in his class, but didn't have the grades to make the dean's list.  That is quite an achievement.

Trump Pledges to Save Brazil's Most Iconic Monument

Rio's Christ the Redeemer Statue Is Due for a Makeover in 2017 ...Trump claims he hires "the best people".  We know that's not true.  There are too many examples of Trump's "best people" doing absolutely idiotic, stupid, racists, (the list is endless) things.   Over the weekend Trump's crack reelection team put a classic ad up on Facebook.  Trump (and Pence) are both apparently worried about this great, historic symbol of our country that is in danger of being destroyed by liberal hoards.

One little problem.  This historic statue called Cristo Redentor overlooks Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
President Donald Trump is standing up for America’s beloved statues — South America’s, that is.
Over the weekend, Trump’s reelection campaign ran Facebook advertisements pledging to “protect” the Christ the Redeemer statue — which is famously located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Ranger Karen Orders Americans To Go Back To Where They Came From

Your Boycott Won't Hurt Jimmy

Image

This is James John Liautaud.  He turned a $25,000 loan from his father into a billion dollar business.   He donated to Trump, but also to Clinton.  He has spent millions on houses, cars and yachts, but he has also donated millions to schools and youth organizations.

There is no way to justify or diminish his big game hunting. His decision to stop killing wild animals for fun may have been driven more by the impact of that behavior on his business than any moral or humane considerations.  In my book his love of killing "big game" makes him an asshole and was a good reason to not patronize his business.  Jimmy John's sold that business to Inspire Brands late last year.  Inspire Brands owns Arby’s, Sonic Drive-In, Buffalo Wild Wings, so if you want to boycott someone keep that in mind.

Also keep in mind that neither Mr. Liautaud nor Inspire Brands are the reason some employees at one of the sandwich shops decided to be racist assholes.  They did that on their own.

Not Your Usual Karen

Is this someone having a mental breakdown?  The woman, identified as Melissa Rein Lively, apparently had a very busy day.
Her entire story was from 8 Am (ish?) – 2 PM? The husband wants a divorce and kicked her out, so she went to a hotel. Went to Target, tried destroying it, and got kicked out. Got an Uber back to her hotel. Immediately went shopping, bought thousands of dollars worth of stuff using daddy’s credit card (literally). Was eventually stopped because she refused to wear a mask. Got kicked out of the hotel, walked around with hats ON HER FEET because she apparently lost her shoes. Got another Uber to her house. When she went into her house, her Range Rover was there (somehow) and she tried to leave. The husband stopped her, took her purse away to keep her there. Called the cops.
She has been identified as a public relations executive who owns her own PR agency.  She is also a former reporter on local TV.  She and her husband routinely show up at exclusive charity events in the Phoenix area as well as vacation in exotic locations worldwide.  On the surface, she appears to be an educated, articulate professional.

Considering today's rampage maybe it's not surprising that she was the subject of a restraining order by her previous employer, a very high profile Arizona PR firm.
The ex-employee, Melissa Rein Lively, alleges that Rose's firm lacks ethics and uses “its powers for evil.” One of its principals has engaged in a smear campaign against her, she claims, by telling others, including her clients, that she’s mentally ill.
A lawyer for the firm said that these co-founders “have a lot of concern” for the ex-employee and her mental health.
"We have absolutely no idea what is motivating this irrational behavior," said Jason Lamm, the firm’s attorney. "And frankly, it's sad. We hope her health is okay." He described Lively's statements as "either wildly false or unintelligible."
Apparently, some of her anger with the firm was due to the firm's work burnishing the image of noted racist sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Despite her attack on the mask rack at Target and her contention to be working directly with Donald Trump and QAnon, Lively was an early public advocate for shelter in place mandates in Arizona.  In March, she published an opinion piece in a local newspaper calling for a more aggressive government response to the pandemic.
Yes, reported cases of COVID-19 are currently somewhat low in Arizona. That is changing rapidly on a day-to-day basis. We must act now to keep it that way to protect our state. We must all collectively make the decision to put people before profits now. We must.
Thank you to the business owners who have made impossible choices this week.
The most important question everyone must ask themselves at this time is how they want to show up in the future economy.
Did you or did you not put people first?
This woman's story seems to be more complex and painful than the routine daily racist "Karen's lost it at WalMart" videos that fill social media.

...then she got arrested on IG Live saying she is a spokesperson for QAnon & the White House and to “call Donald Trump and ask him” because she can’t share any “classified information.” pic.twitter.com/Bg1OPaimUQ

Republican group attacks president for golfing during coronavirus ...

Trump spent last weekend on the golf course and that's where he is spending the day before he spends millions of tax payer dollars to fly to South Dakota for a 1.5 hour appearance at Mt. Rushmore.
“The President’s motorcade arrived at Trump National Golf Club, in Sterling, VA,” the White House press pool reports.
While today is a federal holiday to observe Independence Day, many Americans are working, and many Americans – 11% as of Thursday’s report – would like to be but are unemployed.
Today marks the President’s 365th day at a Trump-owned property since he was sworn in on January 20, 2017. It’s also his 273rd day at one of his golf resorts...

We Are a "Laughingstock"

This is as brutal as it is accurate.  Under Trump's failed "leadership" the United States is facing months (maybe years) of human and financial hardship because Trump decided that dealing with Covid-19 was hard work, but pretending that the pandemic was over was easy.  So he is pretending that everything is OK.  It's not.
