When Will Trump Get His Reward?

Trump Allows Iran to Mock Us - For Good Reason

Trump has allowed Iran to mock us.  Yea, Trump.   Instead of Making America Great, he has made us a nation that the entire world can pity and mock.  We lead the world in Covid-19 deaths and are making a strong bid to lead in racial injustice.

People Don't Understand How Covid-19 Spreads - Or Don't Care

Americans Bringing Covid-19 Across the Border

There isn't much evidence that Mexico has Covid-19 under control and health care in California's Imperial County isn't geared to support both that region's extensive medical issues and a pandemic.  It's a very dangerous convergence of inadequate services and a deadly plague.
Calexico, a small California city across from a Mexican metropolis ...Mexicali, capital of the Mexican state of Baja California, has the third-highest number of confirmed COVID cases in Mexico, with its main hospitals at four-fifths capacity, state health department data shows.
Only a few miles beyond the border fence, Imperial County, California, is coping with the most COVID hospitalizations per capita in the state - well over twice the rate of the next highest county.
For the past two weeks, Imperial County’s largest hospital has used helicopters to fly some patients to other clinics, including those over 100 miles (160 km) away in San Diego and Palm Springs, because its intensive care unit is full.

It's Black and White When It Comes to Protest

Covid-19 is dramatically illustrating the racial and economic divide in the US.  That disparity shows up the most painfully in the police response to white people protesting stay at home orders versus the police response to African-Americans protesting the police murder of a black man.  We haven't come very far, have we?

This Is the Pro-life Crowd

Backed by Donald Trump, anti-lockdown protesters hit the streets ...

Anti-lock down protestors may be spreading Covid-19 as a direct result of their protest events.
It's the perfect, worst-case scenario: A group of people self-selected for being aggressively resistant to basic pandemic protections has been gathering together, commingling for a few hours, and then dispersing across a wide area with whatever hitchhiking viruses someone else may have brought in.
The Guardian wrote up the major findings, as provided to them via the Committee to Protect Medicare and VoteMap. Anonymized cellphone data was used to identify devices present at anti-lockdown rallies in five states, and track where the phones moved after those rallies. (Yes, this is a thing now. Yes, it's both very useful and rather alarming.)

Trump Pandemic Deaths Are Under-counted

Covid-19 fatality numbers from some Republican states - Florida and Texas are very interesting.  Florida's governor has actively intervened to keep the dead from being accurately counted.  We may never know the true body count for the Trump pandemic.  Here's one look at the potential under-count.
As the coronavirus pandemic cuts through the country, it is leaving behind large numbers of deaths that surpass those of recent history. A New York Times analysis of state data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows just how many lives are being lost in the pandemic in each place — as the virus kills some people directly, and other lives are lost to an overwhelmed health care system and fears about using it.

Replaced by a Robot - They Don't Get Sick

7 Warehouse Robots for Retail Automation

When the economy rebounds some workers will find that while they were trying to avoid Covid-19 their employers were replacing them with robots. The virus is turning out to be a boon for companies in the robotics business.
“We could not get as many people in our distribution centers safely,” said Kevin Kuntz, Gap’s senior vice president of global logistics fulfillment. So he called up Kindred AI, the vendor that sells the machines, to ask: “Can you get them here earlier?”
Each machine handles work typically performed by four people, Kuntz said. Neither the deal to triple the number of robots, nor the expedited installations, have been previously reported.
The news illustrates how the pandemic may speed up automation in the retail industry. Companies including Gap and Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) have long used such systems for a range of tasks, like moving items across warehouse floors. Various new technologies are capable of supplanting some cashier, box packing and item picking roles that employ millions of U.S. workers, and the pandemic is giving vendors a chance to make their case.

Trump and the Big Con

Brad Parscale is Trump's campaign manager.  He is a techie who started out designing websites for some of Trump's businesses.  He ultimately became the director of Trump's digital campaign by 2016.  His small company was paid $94 million for its efforts in the presidential election.  Working for the Trump grift has made him rich.  Of course, the money that bought his multiple homes and cars came from the suckers who are wearing MAGA gear.

Thugs Shut Down Michigan's Government

Trump's Brown Shirts shut down a legitimate state government over the need for public safety in the face of a deadly pandemic.
SA | Definition, History, & Facts | BritannicaWhile it is certainly admirable that the State Capitol Commission is “studying” the possibility of banning weapons of war from the chambers of the state legislature, it is perfectly acceptable for the rest of us to conclude that the whole idea of armed civilians obstructing the processes of government as an acceptable exercise of Second Amendment freedoms is completely insane. I’ve seen protestors hauled out of the Wisconsin legislature for singing, for the love of god. But in Michigan, you can dress in Fallujah cosplay, locked and loaded, until the legislators say fck all this noise and call it a day. Michigan is a failed state within a failed state.

How does what is going on in Michigan fit into the concept of a "well regulated milita?"   At least Hitler's goons showed their faces.

Trump's Only Driving One Country Off The Cliff

Watch a Bunch of Beater Cars Go Flying Off a 300-Foot Cliff in ...

Before Trump, the US could claim to be a world leading country.  No one is following the US now.  Trump has destroyed the reputation of this country and made the US an object of the world's derision and pity.
Across Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America, views of the US handling of the coronavirus crisis are uniformly negative and range from horror through derision to sympathy. Donald Trump’s musings from the White House briefing room, particularly his thoughts on injecting disinfectant, have drawn the attention of the planet.
“Over more than two centuries, the United States has stirred a very wide range of feelings in the rest of the world: love and hatred, fear and hope, envy and contempt, awe and anger,” the columnist Fintan O’Toole wrote in the Irish Times. “But there is one emotion that has never been directed towards the US until now: pity.”

Trump is the Plague.

Trump is an ignorant buffoon.  Look at him compared to real leaders.  Tragic and Americans are dying every day because of him.

Trump and His Flaming Russian Ventilators

At the beginning of April, Trump touted a deal he had made with his boss Vlad Putin for Russian ventilators.  It was a win-win for the Trump/Putin partnership.  Trump could strut his stuff as a deal maker and Putin gained the PR halo for his selfless gesture.  Well, OK, not quite selfless, the US paid $660,000 for the ventilators and other medical supplies that Russia airlifted to the US.  Some in Russia pointed out that there might soon be a need for that equipment in Russian hospitals.  In the US, the fact that the Russian supplier of the equipment was under sanction was an area of concern.  Both valid concerns, but the real concern should have been that Trump is incapable of making a responsible deal because he is an idiot.
A Russian military plane carrying the ventilators along with other medical supplies including personal protective equipment landed in New York on Wednesday after U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone...
...Trump on Thursday described the Russian shipment as containing “a lot of medical, high-quality stuff” which could save a lot of lives and said he’d “take it every day” if he had the opportunity.
The "high-quality" Russian ventilators were never used because they were set up for the wrong electrical voltage.  And, that's probably the good news.  In Russia, ventilators from this company are suspected in a number of ICU fires including two that resulted in multiple deaths
Russian ventilators that may have caused two deadly fires in the last week were the same model that President Vladimir Putin sent the U.S. to help its battle against the coronavirus epidemic.
Five patients in a Covid-19 intensive-care unit at the Saint George hospital in St. Petersburg died when one of the devices caught fire Tuesday. The hospital has stopped using its Aventa-M ventilators pending an investigation, Tass news service reported, citing the head of the hospital’s emergency ward.
The same model of ventilator was being used at a Moscow clinic that suffered a fire last week, killing one person. The devices were the same type included in a shipment of medical supplies to New York last month.
Trump and Putin making deals.  Nothing for Americans to worry about.

Trump Brags About Testing, But What About Deaths?

WE'RE NUMBER ONE!

"Am I going to die tonight?"

Great story.
The man on the ventilator asked the doctor for a pen and a piece of paper. He wrote, in shaky handwriting from his hospital bed, what he could not say with the tube jammed down his throat because of the coronavirus.
"Am I going to die tonight?"
Dr. Rick Pitera, 53, felt his stomach drop as he read the note. He knew the odds, and he knew they were not good. He already had seen so much death and suffering at St. Barnabas Medical Center from COVID-19, more than he had seen in the previous three decades working at the Livingston hospital as an anesthesiologist.

Worse Than The Great Depression - Thanks to Trump

Trump's failure to protect this country from the worst impact of the pandemic is just his second worst failure.  His worst failure is his lack of leadership in trying to mitigate the damage that his initial failure caused.  We could face a disaster that will make the Great Depression look like the best of times and Trump continues to pretend it will all be over by the Fall.  The nature of the economic disaster facing the United States is unprecedented.
And yet the imagination of our country’s leaders hardly seems up to the task. The president himself appears incapable of empathy, is skipping as many as nine out of 10 of his task force’s briefings and remains wedded to magical thinking — recommending cures ranging from the simply unproven to the outright deadly. His executive branch, after a three-year assault on institutional norms, is hobbled by vacancies, revolving doors and a plague of temporary acting officials that’s only going to get worse as the president’s term winds down...
Having failed to prepare for the epidemic as it loomed overseas, the United States now finds itself in the position of mounting the worst response in the developed world. Months into the crisis, we’re not even getting the basics right; other countries are running circles around us when it comes to testing and contact tracing, which all public health experts agree are key to addressing the short-term challenges.

Incompetent Trump Doesn't Care How Many Will Die

...Never Trump conservative strategists Steve Schmidt and Rick Wilson laid into President Donald Trump and walked through the extent of his failure to lead the country.
“This is a man who promised to run saying, I can fix it alone, I will make America great again,” said Schmidt. “And his legacy will be mass death, will be suffering at an epic level and economic collapse. That’s the Trump legacy, and he has demonstrated through this crisis, he has exactly zero capacity to lead this nation out of this mess.”
Trump continues to bet our lives that his incompetence won't kill so many that we toss his ass out of office before the election.

Jurassic Park to Reopen ASAP

It's costing too much money, we have to reopen Jurassic Park.

What Velociraptors are really like - Business InsiderThat said, you’ll be pleased to know that, rather than double down on our containment efforts, we’ve decided to dissolve the velociraptor containment task force altogether, and focus instead on how we can get people back into the park as quickly as possible. So rather than concentrating on so-called life-saving measures like “staying in designated safe areas” or “masking your scent,” we’ll be focusing on the details that will get our customers really excited, like a wider selection of fun hats, a pterodactyl-shaped gondola ride to the top of the island, and a brand new Gordon Ramsay designed menu at the Cretaceous Cafe.

Who Knew That Early, Aggressive and Sustained Shelter in Place Works?

Trump, Wohl and Burkman - Only the Best People

Back in mid-April, a young woman named Diana Andrade made the remarkable claim that six years ago Dr. Anthony Fauci, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and key member of Trump's coronavirus task force had sexually assaulted her.  No proof was offered and no reputable or even disreputable news sources (even Fox) took up the story.

Turns out that right wing Trumpist fanboys, Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman had paid Andrade to make the false accusations.  Wohl and Burkman have previously bombed out with false stories and supposed victims (who never seem to appear) regarding sexual assaults and affairs committed by Trump nemesis Elizabeth Warren and Robert Mueller.
Andrade said she decided to abandon her claims and try to record incriminating evidence against the pair after Wohl asked her to find another woman to accuse Fauci of sexual assault — as they’ve done to former special counsel Robert Mueller and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
“Let me tell you something, Diana,” says Burkman on the nine-minute, 35-second call. “This guy shut the country down. He put 40 million people out of work. In a situation like that, you have to make up whatever you have to make up to stop that train and that’s the way life works, okay? That’s the way it goes.”

Your Numbers Don't Fit Our Needs

Trump and his minions don't want bad news and dead bodies to get in the way.  They know that without an economic rebound, Trump and the Republican Party are on for a very bad day come November 3, 2020.  So, the minions will do what they can to hide the bad news.  In Arizona, a joint effort of the two major state universities to model the impact of various government responses to easing social distancing restrictions has been shutdown.
On Tuesday, The Arizona Republic reported that officials with the Arizona Department of Health Services ordered a team of researchers from two public state universities to “pause” work on a model of the coronavirus pandemic — and limited their access to data.
This pesky university model was quite negative concerning opening up the state the way Trump wants it done.
“The universities’ model had shown that reopening at the end of May was the only scenario that didn’t dramatically increase cases,” wrote Leingang. “In late April, Tim Lant, a mathematical epidemiologist at ASU, said the model showed five different scenarios for how the disease could progress in Arizona, depending on how social distancing efforts were relaxed. ‘The slowest curve, based on if the state reopens at the end of May, is ‘the only one that doesn’t put me immediately back on an exponential growth curve,’ Lant said in April.”

Poor Warriors Die In Service of the Rich

“The people of our country are warriors,” Trump said during a roundtable earlier in the day. “I’m not saying anything is perfect. Yes, will some people be affected? Yes. Will some people be affected badly? Yes. But we have to get our country opened and we have to get it open soon.”

Trump’s acknowledgement that reopening the country would likely cost lives represents a shifting White House calculus about risk and reward, given the economic hardship that the closure of most businesses in most states has caused over the past month.
