We Are a "Laughingstock"

This is as brutal as it is accurate.  Under Trump's failed "leadership" the United States is facing months (maybe years) of human and financial hardship because Trump decided that dealing with Covid-19 was hard work, but pretending that the pandemic was over was easy.  So he is pretending that everything is OK.  It's not.

It Is Up To Us

Saving our country and living up to the words of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution isn't that hard.  We can save our country by voting for good people and an honest, accountable government of the people.  

We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness...

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

The United States is a work in progress. Each of us must do a part to achieve those "unalienable Rights" and secure the "Blessing of Liberty..."  

Voting is the way to honor and protect this great work.

It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Herman Cain Is "FED UP"

At least one high profile attendee at Trump's Tulsa train wreck has been hospitalized with Covid-19.  

Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain has been hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19, according to a statement posted to his Twitter account.

The statement said that Cain “developed symptoms serious enough” that required hospitalization, and he spent Wednesday night in an Atlanta-area hospital. As of Thursday, he did not require a respirator and is “awake and alert.”

No mask, no social distancing - a true Trump believer. 

Herman is comfortable putting himself and all those around him at risk.  He's already put his seal of approval on Trump's upcoming Covid-19 rally at Mt. Rushmore.  I wonder if he will still be "FED UP" when they snake the ventilator tube into his lungs?

What Happens When Hospitals Are Full?

Dispatches from the front lines of Covid-19 care in Texas.  Patients are younger and include pregnant women.  Serious lung damage is showing up in many patients in the 20-40 age range.  In San Antonio, hospital beds for Covid-19 patients are full, with seriously ill patients waiting in line for critical care.

While this is going on, Trump is spouting off that the pandemic is over and the economy is recovering. Unfortunately, reality is much different than Trump's fantasy world.

Because Trump decided masks were unmanly, his ball lickers like Texas Governor Gregg Abbott still haven’t issued a mandatory mask order. Because Trump decided the economy was more important that lives, Texas and other states opened too soon, and now the hospitals are effectively full. (It doesn’t matter if they can stick you in a bed if they can’t fucking treat you.)

Covid-19 Deaths Substantially Undercounted

A Yale University study supported by the National Institute of Health concludes that deaths resulting from Convid-19 are being systematically undercounted in the United States by nearly 30%.

“Our analyses suggest that the official tally of deaths due to Covid-19 represent a substantial undercount of the true burden,” Dan Weinberger, an epidemiologist at Yale School of Public Health and a lead author of the study, told CNBC. Weinberger said other factors could contribute to the increase in deaths, such as people avoiding emergency treatment for things like heart attacks. However, he doesn’t think that is the main driver.

The 781,000 total deaths in the United States in the three months through May 30 were about 122,300, or nearly 19% higher, than what would normally be expected, according to the researchers. Of the 122,300 excess deaths, 95,235 were attributed to Covid-19, they said. Most of the rest of the excess deaths, researchers said, were likely related to or directly caused by the coronavirus.
