Lemmings - What Did This Prove?

Supposedly intelligent adults planned and executed these school openings in Georgia.  How did they work out?  Not well.  What is more disruptive to education - distance learning or starting the school year and just days later sending everyone home as dozens of Covid-19 cases emerge?  And, a related question - why didn't these Georgia schools follow CDC guidelines relative to face masks and social distancing?  It is incredible that in the US, people refuse to do the minimum scientifically verified actions that would reduce the spread of coronavirus.

From the New York Times:
At North Paulding High School, at least one student was suspended, then unsuspended, for sharing photos of crowded hallways on social media, sparking a national uproar. Her school closed for at least three days this week after nine positive cases emerged.

From The Washington Post:
On the first day of school at Etowah High School in Georgia on Aug. 3, dozens of seniors packed together to pose side-by-side for a photo. Not a single smile was covered with a mask.
Now, just over a week later, the students all have been sent home and the school is shut.
In all, more than 900 students and staff in the Cherokee County School District have been ordered to quarantine as of Tuesday morning after 59 students and staff tested positive for covid-19, according to school officials. A third of those quarantined are from Etowah High School, which has had 14 confirmed cases.
